Animal Care

The Animal Care area provides an excellent way for children to interact with their furry, feathery or scaly therapy friend and benefit from the many advantages that come hand in hand with animal therapy. One of the main benefits of animal therapy is that it allows children with SEMH needs learn how to handle their emotions and adapt well to different social situations. A lot of our students face many challenges daily, and we watch first-hand how animal therapy helps alleviate many of these challenges. The animal care department at Ramsden Hall Academy consists of two areas of learning. Animal Respect and Care (ARC) for students Year 6 – Year 8 and Animal Care qualification: Year 9 - Year 11. Animal Respect & Care (ARC) - ARC is an area with the focus on helping students to build their social skills and promote empathy towards animals. The lessons the boys will participate in will mainly be an introduction to learning about our school animals, understanding animal rights and being practically involved in their daily maintenance and care needs. Animal Care Qualification (AIM Awards) - When the students reach Year 9 they will have an opportunity to choose Animal Care as one of their options. They will be able to achieve up to a level 2 qualification and develop a greater understanding of animal health and care. This option involves both theory and practical lessons and with Ramsden Hall’s animals and resources, this makes it more than achievable for the students to reach level 2.
